A thermistor is a small electronic component whose resistance will change when the temperature changes. Types are divided into PTC and NTC.
PTC is a positive temperature coefficient thermistor whose resistance value increases as the temperature rises. Such components are often used as in-line resettable fuses.
When the Curie temperature or switching temperature is reached, the resistance value of PTC will immediately increase rapidly, so it is very suitable for combating overcurrent conditions.
Application
PTC had been used in power transformers, chargers, instrument meters and other overcurrent thermal protection circuits.
